Next/Best with Brian Lotti

Coming out with their Next/Best issue, Color Magazine asked me to work with Brian Lotti on a Next/Best article. Meeting Brian was soo awesome, what a great guy! Just like your best friend, but you just met him! We've actually been skating a bit around my area, and I love that he just has that "lets do it" mentality! Plus watching him skate around flat.. now I know what the hype is about.

Thanks to Color Magazine for using my photo and interview, and Brian for being awesome!

Logging and Blogging

So along time ago I saw a shirt which was commonly around the cool guy LA skateboard scene, with large lime green helvetica letters and it said "Booze and Shoes". It might have been a Fucking Awesome shirt, who knows. Then recently I saw a nice knockoff as Color Magazine had their own version of it with Pools and Schools. Well successfully being a total kook, here I go with: "Logging and Blogging".. Those two acts are my current pathetic daily theme, yet I have no complaints whatsoever.

Next/Best with Danny Garcia

This is the words I wrote for the Next/Best column/article for Color Magazine:

The only thing I knew about him was that he one of the skateboarders I enjoyed watching and had one hell of a switch flip, yet, naturally I was unsure how this meet and greet would go.

Following the hello and handshake plus a quick tour of his condo, Danny Garcia and I sat in the dual couches wedged in the corner of his knickknacky living room. Instinctually he grabbed his guitar and just lightly strummed random chords. I small talked him about how come he had such a baby TV and his response was that he put it in here for Raymond (Molinar) who was couching it and that he doesn't watch much TV. We chatted briefly about skateboarding and girlfriends but once we started our conversation about personal tastes in music, it rapidly progressed into a high energy banter back and fourth about how songs were created, what influences the musician had for each song had and what effect it had on us. I'm no musical expert, by any means, but it was safe to say that Danny was hands down a music connoisseur. Unknowing to me, at about an hour or so, he said to me, "Hey maybe we should shoot this photo thing." Oh yeah, thats why I'm here, I thought.

Asking me what I had planned, and me not really aware of what I was looking for in a photo, Danny sprang up and sat at this piano and just tapped away and some familiar tunes. I'm not very embarrassed at singing aloud, and apparently neither was he, because before I knew it, we were singing in unison to quirky Beatles classic, which if you heard it, you'd sing it too. Time passed and the conversation continued from vintage instruments in his closest to his hilarious obsession with chocolate cake. Hahha, I know it sounds weird, but it felt like we had been friends for years, but it had only been a couple of hours. - Mikendo

Super Decenzo Bros in Color Magazine

Color Magazine came out with this awesome Super Decenzo Bros interview, featuring the amazing talents of Ryan and Scott Decenzo, who are on a insane skateboarding killing spree. This interview (at least the photos I shot) were done in basically a 2 week period, with the exception of the heelflip shove in London.

I was soo lucky that Color wanted me to shoot them for this interview, plus as many featured lifestyle photos as possible. Thanks to Color and the Decenzo's for all their time!

Color Magazine / Lee Yankou

A while ago when Lee Yankou was staying in Long Beach, he called me up to go skate. We headed over to this stairset over bar, which I had seen in video's but never been to officially. Well, Lee crushed this thing with a hardflip, hauling ass, would make it over, land it, then roll straight into the curb (on the median in the middle) So he wanted to ollie up the curb, so we spent another 30 mins so he could land it then ollie up the curb. Dedicated.

Funny thing is, this was actually the first time I had ever met Garrett Hunt, who was awesome, we ended up inviting him to go on that Ezekiel Northwest Tour. Awesome. Thanks to Color Magazine for running this spread, i really liked this photo, and I am glad it got used!

Kenny Anderson in Color Magazine

Color Magazine asked me to shoot some portraits of Kenny Anderson for their most recent Green Issue. It was great to see Kenny's crazy kit of vegetable oil fuel, diesel Mercedes and pumping/filtering system. Read the magazine to see more detail of Kenny and his program. Thanks to everyone for helping this happen.

Evan Smith in Color Magazine

Wow, Evan Smith is blowing up isn't he? Well congrats to the little dunny, he deserves it of course. This bs5.0 fsrevert in was supposed to be in his 411VM Am issue part, shame that doesn't ever get to be viewed. I remember this night in TX from our Ezekiel US tour, we were just cranking out tricks and this one was the easy go for him for how tight the ramp is. Thanks to Color Magazine for throwing in little dunny in this issue.
