Mikey Sanchez and his Finesse Ad

This particular day I was shooting Kevin Romar while he was attempting his last trick for Digital "Smoke and Mirrors" at Redondo High. Kevin gives it a couple last valiant goes.. but finally couldn't jump down it anymore, so we head over to another local high school to skate.

At the time Mikey was just a kid who was with Kevin and Booker's crew (thaclinic.com), and I didn't know him. But with switch bigspin heels in almost within 10 tries. I was amazed and shot what you see above.

This kid is just that good. Thanks Rod and Steve, you got something with this kid!

Angela Boatwright and Vapors

I just finished doing an interview for Vapors with a NY photographer named Angela Boatwright. Here is a quote from her Interview. Check out Vapors magazine in a month or two and check it out.

Whats your typical day?
Right now? If I'm not shooting I'm scanning. 85 hours a day. I complain a lot too. Lots of un-necessary bitching and such. Ask my assistants. Today I changed things up slightly and printed in the color darkroom (I'm scanning right now though). I've done a lot of bitching today though. My Nikon Coolscan went on the fritz and I told the Nikon phone operator that if my new Apple computer is broken I'm gonna walk into the Apple store with a hatchet. He didn't really respond to that.

Jason Wakuzawa and OTwo Collaboration

What I love about skateboarding and photography is that we are all creating upon creating. Wow that sounded really cheezy.. but anyways, what was awesome is that I get an email from Otwo, an artist from London who did the artwork on the side of the wall (see photo above). He tracked me down from Ezekiel Europe and asked for a hi-rez photo for his porfolio. Fucking ripping! Check out his older blog for and artwork for updates on OTwo.

BLISS Magazine featuring Jason Wakuzawa

My photos were featured in an JASON WAKUZAWA article in BLISS MAGAZINE a couple months back. We shot this entire interview pretty much in Europe over the course of our the DEPORTED tour. This is only 7 weeks (*actually 6 cause he left early) and most of it was pretty much within 10 mins of trying. Jason is one of those kids who really can do anything, anytime he wants. Its pretty insane, and I am blessed to have ever skated with him. Lets go skate, Jason!

This is kinda older news, but I just found a photo of this, so I thought I'd keep up my consistent posting and go for it. This was a window display for United Boardshop (the shop Derek Fukuhara, featured in the Ezekiel Displays rides for) I shot especially for this shop, then it got used later as lifestyle ad's for some random magazines. Hyped.

VERN LAIRD - HIPSTER at HEART

Not sure if your familiar with Vern Laird, but east coast opinionated shit talker and personal debate partner of mine, asked me to come to this art show. Free wine, so why not. The show (which I don't know anything about the name, only that they had free wine) had all prints of words. After a couple looks, i knew what they were, Lyrics. Music is art, art is music. Wow, its mad deep on this blog.

NARDELLI and MOTO'SAN

These are some photoextra's from my last trip to the big apple. Mark Nardelli's (from Zoo York) Vapors Interview(which I still haven't transcript'ed.. uggg) and TWS Daily Grind are both are in the works and will be done as soon as I can move off with my overly procrastinating ass.

The lovely woman you see is none other then Aya, the eastcoast head of Stoked Mentoring, a childen's non-profit group to bring kids out from "banging" to "boards". (I made that last part up, so don't think Stoked is cheezy.. its really just me)

RED BULL 360 SHOOT

RED BULL 360 SHOOT.

Simply, I shot the HVX to do the "behind the scenes". This camera was not at the caliber to document the actual shoot.
Imagine the possiblities.. only with the power of Red Bull. I mean, the damn juice gives you wings!

SBC and Brad Sheppard

My first SBC photo. I've always been a fan of SBC magazine (SBC is a Canadian Magazine) and I do believe they make a great magazine. Furthermore, they have a photographer named Scotty Pommier which I think is a amazing and a genius quirky photographer. Since Brad Sheppard stays at my house while randomly traversing from Black Box and Canada, I had the luxury of shooting some delicate photos of Brad in the streets of Los Angeles. Yippie.

Yes, Randy is hot right now. Skating super good meanwhile traveling everywhere from NYC, STL, and LA. This was some abandon drainage ditch, not really sure exactly. Mark took us here while in Chattanooga in TN and it started to rain insanely at the snap of lighting! Below are the original photo, and an outtake shot.

I finally got around to getting all our articles from our Ezekiel "Deported Tour" last year. This is my first tour article, especially one from Europe. It was in Slack, a CCS style magazine from Germany. Thanks Oli for setting this up. If you look carefully or follow our Ezekiel coverage, alot of the photos are double angles from other European articles we had during our time in Europe.
Go ahead and click above to view the article, and book your next flight to Europe already, duh!

Sierra Feller's DaKine Ad

I kinda blew it.. I sent this photo out to Dakine, for an ad. A kickflip crooks on a handrail is amazing, right? Sierra calls a couple weeks later, "Hey Mike, this photo is kinda old, I did it 8 months ago, lets shoot something new." I reply, "Cool." and that's the last time we spoke. 2 months later, this shows up in Thrasher! I'm assuming neither of us called Dakine, to cancel the ad. I thought he was gonna call Dakine, and he probably thought I was.

Sorry Sierra... but the kickflip crooks is still amazing tho!
